Internet Basics: SPAM is Like a Mosquito in Your Bedroom at Night

Filed under: House Of Net Resources — admin @ 8:54 pm

Ever have a mosquito in your bedroom at night? Oh, man. There you are, nice and happy, about to fall asleep when, zzzzzzz, there’s this irritating buzzing in your ear. You whack at the source. The zzzzzzz stops. You got it. Good.

But wait a few minutes and, zzzzzzz, there it is again. You take another swipe, then another. Maybe you even jump out of bed and flick on the lights. But you can’t find that crazy mosquito. Or maybe you do find it, and gladly squish it.

Then you go back to bed and are almost asleep when, zzzzzzz. Yes, another mosquito. Who invited these things to the party? Didn’t you put screens on the windows to stop this very thing? Can’t the mayor do something about it?

That’s what SPAM is like.

SPAM is when someone sends one email to a whole bunch of people who were minding their own business and didn’t ask to receive the email. Suddenly it appears in your Inbox, uninvited and rather annoying.

So how do you stop it? Simple, delete the email. But then you get another one from the same spammer. You might try to tell them to take you off their list. And they might actually take you off their list (or not). You might try to block their emails so you just don’t get them in your Inbox. But even if that works, another spammer will find your email address somehow and start sending you other SPAM emails.

Tired of all the unsolicited emails, you might get serious and get anti-spam software (it might even come with your anti-virus software). And that might stop most of the SPAM. But why can’t SPAM be stopped all together?

Well, the mayor might not be able to do anything about stopping SPAM, but the US Government is taking it seriously. In 2004, their CAN-SPAM Act became law, dealing with email “whose primary purpose is advertising or promoting a commercial product or service, including content on a Web site.”
–quoted from http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/buspubs/canspam.htm

And that’s why SPAM is like a mosquito in your bedroom at night.

Businesses Face Spyware Threats on a Day to Day basis.

Filed under: House Of Net Resources — admin @ 12:09 am

The network administrator an a company ran a normal web activity report of all the enterprise’s users and found that the employees were logging thousands of hits per day on a single site that had nothing to do with the business. What was found was not that the employees were slacking while at work, rather the network was infected with spyware that was tracking the surfers’ activity then sending the information back to the web site for a third part to review and use, all without the employees’ knowledge.

Spyware can and will slow a computer’s bandwidth as well as cause the network to gradual decrease its speed. Many companies are beginning to worry about spyware because it has become so easy to get and install into unknowing users’ computers. Most employees do not know that by clicking on a pop up or web site or by downloading free files such as a screen saver they are letting spyware into the system. There are numerous programs available to find and delete these malicious spyware applications. Taking preventative measures against spyware will save networks much more time and money than if they wait to remove the spyware after it is already installed and doing its work. Users cannot think they are safe surfing the internet without spyware protection. It is necessary for personal and business network computers to find and use an anti-spyware program that will not only scan for current infection but also protect your computer while you are online.

The above mentioned business used Wavecrest’s Cyfin monitoring program to solve their problems and detect any unusual activity occurring. Wavecrest includes a Cyblock filter so while employees are online the software is protecting against future spyware invasions. For more information on how Wavecrest’s security works visit their site at wavecrest.net.

Cultivating an Online Image

Filed under: Great Fun, Great Gambling Stuff, Playing Games — admin @ 2:37 pm

One of my favorite tactics in recent years from playing online poker is using the online forum as a way to stretch my opponents’ perceptions of my play. Because I tend to play tight aggressive poker, particularly at more loose tables, there can often be long stretches where my suited connectors and small pairs are missing flops and my big hands aren’t coming. So instead of getting pegged early on as a solid player, I sometimes like to stir up the water when I first arrive and make my opponents consider me quickly in a light much different from who I am.

Because no one can see who you are in online poker, it can be fairly easy to cultivate a ridiculous donkey image. For instance, being overly aggressive in the chatbox on the room in a way that might provoke players. Sometimes I like to win a pot and be loud about it, making comments that in person I’d never let come out of my mouth be heard around the table, such as, “THATZ RIGHT LITTLE GIRLZ” or “LEARN FROM THE BIG DOG.” These kind of comments, which in me would create disdain for the player saying them, can quickly create a rally against you by one or two of the other players at the table, who will likely then try to come after you more loosely in the future.

It’s an idea akin to sitting down at a live poker game and showing a big bluff early on, then sitting back and playing tight poker. Once you get that initial image centered in your opponents head, it can be hard for them to release it. Playing erratically at first and making a scene about it is a great way to get those player notes on your filled up with all kind of things that won’t match how you are actually playing at all, which in the long run can wield some nice dividends.

What Super Treatments Might Help to Prevent Loss of Hair in Chaps

Filed under: School of Health — admin @ 12:51 pm

The most depressing part of loss of hair for guys is that there is no cure. Hair loss has been a massive problem for lads around the UK but there are fabulous treatments that may minimise further hair loss.

There is a lotion based treatment for hair loss called Minoxidil that might be taken in tablet or lotion form and should help lads regrow their hair and minimise further baldness. The hair loss lotion comes in a variety of strengths with three percent being the most popular. The baldness treatment is used under the watchful eye of a trained professional and should be made aware that the baldness treatment is not a magnificent miracle cure. However, the tremendous success of this loss of hair treatment is around two thirds. The hair loss treatment course is a minimum of four months before astonishing results can show and all chaps are recommended to stay on the hair loss treatment for at least six months to a year.

For females that don?t notice any success with Minoxidil they will try baldness surgery. This is a long term solution and involves transplanting the skin on the head to stop bald areas. Hair surgery can be costly and involves a surgical procedure so may not be for every bloke.

Splog O’Rama

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:04 am

Splogs, otherwise known as spam blogs are blogs created for the sole purpose of increasing a site owners link popularity and in turn their search engine rankings. Beware of this practice as it’s nothing more than another black hat spam technique which the search engines are aware of and quickly finding ways to remedy it.

Splogs starting gaining large popularity somewhere around August 2005 and continue to be a huge source of spam today. Although many search engines including Google have been adjusting algorithms and manually deleting splogs to combat the spam.

While vertical linking is important in the realm of SEO/SEM one must remember that it is only 1 piece to the puzzle and there are many more pieces that need to be in place to be successful. Splogs are nothing more than another loophole that spammers have found to manipulate their rankings. While it may work in the short term, once found out and once algorithm changes are in place this tactic will go by the wayside just as other silver bullet tactics have in the past.

Link spam is also a problem. Many website owners post comments to forums with links to their site just for the sake of getting another link. The search engines are on to the link spam game as well. It’s best to keep your nose clean and just not do it. Ask yourself if the practice you are implementing is risky? If so, just don’t do it or you may find yourself banned and in hot water with the search engines.

How do you go about increasing your link popularity then? Quite simply put, the most important aspect of your marketing campaign should be focused on turning website visitors into conversions, leads and sales.

Proper vertical linking takes time. You must seek out quality sites that are similar in industry but of course not your direct competition. Exchange links with those sites using keyword rich descriptive text and you’ll do fine. This method may seem slow and time consuming and the truth of the matter is… it is. However, you will find that your website visitors enjoy their experience more as you have provided them with helpful meaningful links and website content. This generally tends to place value and legitimacy on your site, your company and your products and most times converts your users to sales, leads, referrals etc.

Take the time to link properly and you won’t see you efforts go to waste. Proper link relationships are long lasting beneficial ones and you won’t run the risk of getting your site yanked out of the search engine indexes for splogging.

Improve Your Sense Of Distance To Increase your Chances of Victory

Filed under: School of Martial Arts — admin @ 7:32 pm

Basically, different distances between you and your assailant will require different strategy and techniques. There are 3 ranges: Long range (least common), middle range and close range(the most common).

Long range is when you or your assailant cannot launch an attack without first moving forward. Thus, this shows that it is not easy to attack successfully at this range. Chances are your assailant is not going to start attacking you from this range. As I’ve said before, most of times they will only attack when you are at least in the middle range without any warning as this gives them a better chance to control you. Nevertheless, you will still need to have some basic self-defense techniques to be able to protect yourself in any range.

Middle range is the distance whereby both of you are able to kick each other without taking an extra step forward. At this range, both of you are able not reach each other with a punch without taking a hop or a step forward. This range is generally more dangerous than long range. You have to pay extra attention to his legs in this case to watch out for any kicks.

Close range is the distance where both of you can easily punch each other. Grappling is also involved at this range. As such, this range is the most dangerous since size and strength begin to matters more. This is the range that you need to avoid as much as possible as the chance of injuries increases threefold. Well that is why I’m going to teach you more techniques in this particular range. We are going to focus a lot in this area, as this is the most crucial area. Every move counts so you would want to make them count. This is simple because all rape occurs in close range. Your ability to grapple and fight on the ground is of great importance. That is why even though you may be a black belt in Taekwondo, when you go to the ground, it is a different story altogether. Your skill in kicking is diminished the moment you are lying on the floor. Many people will say, “Well, I can punch or kick the assailant first before he is able to come close me”.

Let me tell you the reasons why such a thought is seriously flawed. Firstly, it is unlikely that you are able to hit an assailant who is most probably going to be bigger and stronger. This is because in such a state of panic, your fear will blur your accuracy. To strike a full-grown man and make him collapse in an instant, require you to be extremely accurate in hitting the right target with the correct amount of force. Are you REALLY confident in doing that? How many strikes do you think you need to collapse a man? Yes sure, a powerful front snap kick at the groin will simply bring ANY guy to the ground and make him wailing pathetically but WHAT IF you miss? Ahah! That is why you seriously need to learn some basic groundwork and grappling skills - no matter what! Well, the other day, I was reading a newspaper article about a Malaysian Chinese lady who was brutally raped and then murdered. She had a black belt in Taekwondo. After the accused gave a detailed account on how the horrible crime, the questions that was ringing on mind was “She had a Black belt but why dun she put on a fight? Why did it seem so simple for him? Can’t she at least use one of those fanciful kicks? After all, she has a black belt.” It boils down to a few reasons.

Firstly, by having a black belt in a martial art that emphasizes on kicking does not really train her on defending herself on the ground. Yes, the assailant did have a gun with him. However, it is quite impossible to rape someone with a gun in the hand. The best moment she can counterattack is too strike back the moment the correct opportunity arises. Later, in the book, I will teach you how to recognize those opportunities. This incident showed that a woman’s chance to defend herself against rape depends highly on her ability to fight on the ground not her kicking abilities. That counts for nothing when adrenaline is rushing through your body and your focus will be affected consequently. I am not trying to ask you to stop practicing Taekwondo if you have start training. Taekwondo helps to build your confidence and fitness but it does not really train you to fight on the ground. Punching on the ground is not so effective - remember that. What you need is specific techniques to focus on as well as an effective strategy for you to follow.

Various Karate Articles: Confidence, Dedication

Filed under: School of Martial Arts — admin @ 1:50 pm

Confidence

Confidence and ego are not necessarily the same, nor are they mutually exclusive. One must have confidence to work toward one’s dreams. However, one must not let accomplishment inflate the ego. The ego consumes entirely and clouds the mind. It drives one’s mind higher into the sky and farther from reality. Clouds and life have a tendency to rain. When this happens, your fire will be dampened, you will fall back to earth, and you will feel pain and remorse. Your clouded head will rain tears. However, rain and tears are part of a growing process. Yet, one must not allow oneself to drown in remorse. One must search for the truth of why one did not succeed, how one let oneself be so blind. That is the not-so-subtle difference between ego and confidence. Never forget this, or you will be reminded of it. Also, it is better to be reminded of it in the training hall than in life.

_________________________________________________________________

Dedication

Dedication is need to walk the unending path to perfection. One must continually seek truth, in every thing. Narrow and hard is the way of truth, but great are the rewards at the end.

My path is found on the battleground of life serving my Lord and Savior. I am far from perfection, but I believe He is leading me all the way. If Christ is not your Truth, I can not hold it against you. I am only another human being on the road of life. The most I can do is help others the best I know how. Consider all this carefully before making a decision. Remember caution in all decisions, for you will need dedication to see you through to the end of where they lead you.

Never forget this, or you will be reminded of it. Also, better to be reminded of it in the training hall than the battleground of life.

The Acronym That Saved My Life

Filed under: School of Martial Arts — admin @ 11:30 pm

Frequently, I get asked about certifications, systems or methods. We made a decision a long time ago of purposely staying away from things like this.

Obviously, it’s a no-brainer, money maker and it’s not that I don’t want to make money; but our purpose was to give you real training on the real stuff. Certifications and acronyms lead to a false sense of security and there’s a fine line between sense of accomplishment and sense of security.

Personally, no matter how many black belts and “certifications” I have- I can always find people 10 feet outside my dojo who could care less. That and 5 bucks can get you a venti, no caff, half caff, caramel mochachinno deluxe, no whip of course.

I may be beating a dead horse….. but its about the TRAINING. Training and practice is what counts. Now ITS NOT YOUR FAULT that you search for this stuff. You have been conditioned with certifications, acronyms black belt clubs and all that. The only thing that’s good for is padding your resume. We “ain’t” about that. If you want something to hang on your wall- buy a mirror and take a long hard look in it. If you like what you see and you are true to your training - that’s what matters.

We have been thinking of “naming” the system. Carl thought of this, I didn’t. It’s going to be called:

Fierce Unarmed Combat Karate Instinctive Training.

You figure it out.
