Deciding on the Greatest Fast Broadband Deal

Filed under: Living With The Web — admin @ 11:01 am

When surfers are researching the fast broadband landscape you yourself will probably feel overwhelmed. The internet market is full to the brim with providers providing so many high speed broadband packages with varies upload and download speeds and download allocations. Click here to see all the Orange broadband deals in your area.

You yourself might want to find out about each and every internet business directly to ascertain what high speed broadband packages the business supply, download speeds the business offer and the company’s conditions and terms. If internet users want to see this information in one website potential customers may desire to use a high speed internet comparison site.

If customers presently have an internet firm and desire to find a better provider then nothing should prohibit you from trying a different provider, especially if a benefit is to be made. High speed broadband comparison businesses will often be able to guide you through the procedure and what steps should be taken.

When surfers are seeking for the leading offer price may not be the main deciding factor. Countless high speed internet access businesses will advertise an exceedingly low entry package to draw potential customers over to them. When internet packages are unusually low in price please make sure you learn what speed the broadband package will provide, what download allocation you yourself will be provided with and also the length of the broadband contract. The download limits is vital as numerous corporations might charge potential customers per Gigabyte that clients go over, so if your broadband package has an 8 Gigabyte download allocation and clients download ten horror movies that month, you are more than likely to have downloaded 10GB (i.e. one Gigabyte per movie) - that is 2GB’s more than your allocation, and which is 2GB worth of downloads the corporation can often bill over and above your monthly internet package cost.

When checking out the leading offer please furthermore check whether or not the corporation will charge a connection fee and if there are any charges associated with being given a wireless router. The combination of these additional costs could all mount up and potential customers can often be left with little savings when compared to other packages.

Thankfully, internet provider comparison websites will often mention any further charges and clients can make a guided and advised decision.

What Web Hosting Customers Want

Filed under: Living With The Web — admin @ 6:37 pm

With over twenty thousand webhosting companies competing for new customers, there’s been a lot of speculation over what people are looking for when they purchase hosting.

There are the obvious answers, of course - reliable servers, lots of features, reasonable prices, etc.

One thing that is almost always overlooked though, and I believe most people are looking for this, is “relationship”. After eight years in this business, it’s been my experience that cultivating good relationships with my clients is the best way to keep existing customers and attract new business.

I once attended a seminar put on by a business coach. One thing he said that has always stuck with me is that ‘business’ is just something we use as an excuse for interacting with people we enjoy.

There’s a lot of truth to that. We like to do business with people and companies which we like to do business with - not necessarily those which give the best price or even those that do the best job.

That’s where I think most webhosting companies have missed the boat.

While we can’t ignore essential elements of the business, like uptime and security, we must always remember that those faceless clients who subscribe to our services are real, living, breathing people with very real feelings, worries, and concerns. The better we can get to know our clients on a personal basis, the better we can address those worries and concerns.

Aside from the monetary benefits of fostering an atmosphere of goodwill, there are some really wonderful personal benefits as well.

I never know what my day may bring when I sit down at my telephone. Perhaps I’ll hear from James, our hollywood celebrity, or maybe I’ll talk to Ken, a retired state trooper. Maybe John, a Los Angeles talk show host, will give me a ring. Perhaps I’ll spend a few minutes chatting with Richard in San Antonio or Andy in The Bronx. I never know - but I’m always delighted to find out - just who is on the phone when I answer.

If you truly enjoy other people, it will show in your voice, and the person on the other end of the line will hang up feeling that someone who really cares paid attention to them and their problem.

Here’s the catch, though. You can’t fake it. People are incredibly perceptive, and they’ll immediately brand you as a phony if you’re not sincere.

If, however, you really do like your clients and enjoy interacting with them - the benefits to them and you will exceed anything you can possibly imagine.

Increase Your Website Traffic with NO Cost by www.itsallaboutlinks.com

Filed under: Living With The Web — admin @ 11:36 am

“Increase Your Website Traffic with NO Cost” is a bold
statement don’t you think. But, believe me it’s true. You can
increase your traffic by 1000% with no cost involved if you do
it the right way. Continue reading if you want to know how.

I’ve outlined 5 ways to reach your target. But, please keep in
mind that these are not the only ways that you can do to
increase your traffic. There are hundreds of techniques to
increase traffic. But these one are the proven one. I’ve used it
personally. More importantly, these techniques can get you FREE
traffic. You’re money is saved in your pocket. Let’s go to the
first one.

1: Linking strategy

Linking strategy is the easiest way to get free traffic. When I
say “the easiest way” it does not mean that you can ask
everybody to link to your site and do nothing after that.
Compared to other techniques that you’ll discover, this one will
take less time to do.

Here’s how to do it. First select the site in your niche market.
Be selective. Choose one that has a high traffic. Usually a high
traffic site is pretty stingy to put link to your site. So, the
key here is to be persistent. Ask them how many visitors do they
received per month and if they could link to your site. If they
don’t answer your request, email them the second time.

Be persistent. If they don’t want to link to your site, ask them
to trade link instead (reciprocal link). This is the last resort
you want to have.

Word of warning: Don’t crowd your site with too many links. Only
accept link trading if it’s really worth it.

2: Offer Free eBooks or submit articles

You’ll fall in love with this technique if you see what it can
do to your site. This technique can create an excellent’Viral
marketing’ effect. It can multiply the no of visitors to your
site in a matter of days. This most important thing about this
technique is that to offer something that is really useful to
your visitor. So useful that they can only get that information
from you!

You need to the ‘wants’ in your need market. What problems do
they encounter? Solve these problems and you have a killer
articles or e-book that you can give away for free. Remember,
don’t sell it. Give it away for free. If you feel really
reluctant to give your article or e-book for free, you can give
your visitors a partial of it. But, make sure it’s really
useful. Don’t forget to put your name and your contact
information in this article or e-book. Usually, if you write an
article, you need to include your resource box at the very
bottom of your article.

The most important task in this technique is to offer a reprint
right to your visitors. What this mean is that your visitors can
publish your articles or e-book to anyone in any medium; email,
Ezine, website or anything. But please state your condition:
Include your contact information or resource box. This will
create viral effect to your visitors.

Before I forgot, there is one particular e-book compiler that is
good in doing this kind of task. The name of this e-book
compiler is ‘E-book Edit Pro’. With this compiler, you can offer
your visitors a customizable e-book. This is a great incentive
for them to distribute your article or e-book since they can put
their name and information in it.

3: Classified Ad

This is the most time consuming technique compared to all 5.
While it is time consuming, it is really worth it.

Tips - This technique should be used together with the above
technique. Let me explain:

First, you need to write an e-book or article that you can give
it away for free. Then, you need have an autoresponder. If you
don’t have an autoresponder (your hosting company should provide
this service for free), you can get one for free. Just type
‘free autoresponder’ in your search engine and you’ll get
hundred of sites that provided free autoresponder.

Enough talking. Let’s continue.

After you have your own autoresponder, place your free article
in this autoresponder. Now, you need to advertise your
autoresponder address in the classified ad website. Don’t put
your email address but your autoresponder address. The best part
with this technique is that you can capture you visitor’s email.
You can contact them again and again if you have any offer in
the future.

4: Deliver informational pack Ezine/Newsletter

People surf the net to look for information. Out of 100, only 3
people surf the net to buy something. But others are doing some
research or try to find something informational.

With this keep in mind, you can attract people to come to your
site if you can deliver them timely information. By producing
timely information, you glued these visitors to your site
preventing them from going elsewhere. This can be done by giving
them free newsletter or Ezine.

This is not an easy task because there is abundance of free
information on the net. You need to give them something
different from these ‘free’ stuff. Try to provide something
unique in your Ezine. For example, if you’re publishing music
Ezine, try to make a deal with music label so that you can give
special price to your subscriber. Make sure your subscriber
cannot get this of kind if deal in other place. If you can
create this unique proposition, you’re already on top of the
world. Your Ezine will spread like fire. More people will come
to your site to subscribe your unique newsletter.

5: Offer affiliate program

This is the greatest FREE traffic generator technique out there.
With this technique both parties win; you and your affiliate
program participant. You get more traffic and sales, they get
more money from referral commission.

This topic is really a large topic. I can write a whole e-book
about how to create a successful affiliate program. But, I’ll
discuss the basic thing about affiliate program in here.

Basically, to create an effective affiliate program, you need to
create an interest for your visitor’s to join your affiliate
program. You can do this by giving them high referral fees and
marketing tools for them to use. Above all, you need to make
them easy to promote your product or service. Don’t make them do
all the hard work. It is your job.

The next thing you need to do is to motivate them to spread the
word about you. Contact them in a timely manner. Don’t forget
them after they’ve joined your program. Make them feel special.
In fact, they are special since they are the one who will do the
promotion and advertising. A well designed affiliate program can
increase your website traffic and sales by unimaginable amount.
But again, you need to devote all you effort in this technique
if you want to have a successful affiliate program. Don’t do it
half way. Even if you’ve to work 18 hours a day to create your
own affiliate program, it’s really worth it in the future. The
payoff is going to be thousand times your initial effort.

All of these techniques are free. You don’t have to spend a dime
on them. Try it on your site. I’ve tried all these techniques.
And they work!

A Secret Way Of Getting Traffic

Filed under: Living With The Web — admin @ 5:40 pm

A Secret Way of Getting Traffic: Submitting to Online Directories

If you are reading this article, more likely than not you own a
website that you would like to see be a success. To achieve that
level, you need traffic to your site. But where does traffic
come from?

One of the better ways to get traffic for your site is to submit
your site to the many directories that exist online. Online
directories are similar to your phone book yellow pages: These
directories are categorized (education, entertainment, health,
etc.), and when you submit your website, you suggest a category
for your website. Often, you will even be able to submit to a
sub-category within a major category. For example, suppose your
website is about aromatherapy.

In your submission request, you would suggest “Health” as your
main category, “Alternative Medicine” as your sub-category, and
“Aromatherapy” as a further sub-category.

Some of the leading online directories are Yahoo!, MSN Small
Business, and the DMOZ directory. Unlike search engines,
however, listings in online directories are usually not free. As
of this writing, you can submit for free to the Yahoo! Directory
(http://dir.yahoo.com), but
there is not guarantee on how quickly your website will be
reviewed for listing. If you need your site reviewed faster, you
can pay Yahoo! $299 US for “expedited” service and they will
review your site within seven days. However, this fee is a
yearly recurring fee. Your website is subject to a yearly
review, and is guaranteed neither initial inclusion or to remain
listed year after year.

The MSN service is $49 US, and it functions more like a search
engine submit service. Their submission service includes
inclusion in their own small business directory. DMOZ, on the
other hand, is free, but because it is operated by volunteers,
it could be awhile before your site is included. Your best
options are to submit to DMOZ and pay for the MSN and Yahoo!
services.

But why should you spend money? Can’t you just optimize your
site for the search engines? You can, but not everyone goes to a
search engine for what they are looking for. For example, if
someone is searching for gourmet dog treats, they may not use a
search engine. Instead, they might go to one of the online
directories and look at the listings, much like someone would
use the yellow pages in their phone book. Your investment in
gaining inclusion in the online directories will pay off for you
in a multitude of ways.

1. You will increase traffic to your site. Your site will be
included in the online directories, as well as the search
engines, and this will help you gain traffic as people search
directory listings and find your website.

2. You will increase the number of backlinks to your site. If
the directory pages are listed in search engines, the link they
provide for your site will be listed in the search engines. This
benefits you by creating more ways for people to find your site.
Ultimately, this will provide more traffic for you.

3. Submitting to directories is a quick way to gain links.
Optimizing your site for the search engines is very difficult
and time-consuming. It can take a lot of time to learn how to
write for the search engines. In the meantime, any links you can
get will help you with the search engines, and submitting to
directories will get you links.

4. Submitting to directories is relatively inexpensive, and a
good investment. As stated earlier, you can submit to Yahoo! and
MSN for less than $350. DMOZ is free. If you run a search for
online directories, you will find many more where you could
submit inexpensively, or even for free.

In short, submitting to online directories is one of the best
ways for you to build traffic to your website. In the end, you
need traffic to survive online. So get started!

Do’s and Don’ts in Web Design - part 2 (content)

Filed under: Living With The Web — admin @ 2:56 pm

Do know your audience

It’s important to know your audience.
If you write for a site that sells toys you’ll use other words, colors, images etc. compared to a site for online banking.
Write and design with your visitors in mind. Don’t get tempted to write for yourself.

Don’t use meaningless words

Do you have a cool site with hot subjects?
Or a hot site with cool subjects?
On some hype-sensitive sites these kind of words might be useful but on most sites you’d better refrain from meaningless words.

Do write about the subject

Write about the subject.
Saying: This page is about breeding goldfish talks about the page. Instead, start right away with the
subject. Breeding goldfish is a popular hobby….

Don’t use jargon

Avoid jargon. That goes for Internet jargon but also for jargon for any other subject.
Only if your site is focused on a selective group of specialists jargon might make sense.

Do use short sentences

Use short sentences. The World Wide Web is fast. Your visitors want to get your info in a snap. So read and reread your text. Then cut out as many unnecessary words as possible.

Don’t write technical

Don’t write technical. Your visitors don’t care how you created your site and that you prefer Perl over TCL/TK (or the other way around).
Instead write about your subject.

Do use correct spelling

OK, this one will turn against me….
Use correct English or whatever language your site is written in. As a standard routine use a spelling checker but don’t rely completely on it. Human proof reading is necessary.
This can be difficult - especially if you’re not native speaking English.

Don’t show any page under construction

Don’t publish a page that’s under construction.
People will hate you if you do.
If the page isn’t finished, it’s not ready to be published.
In a sense most pages are always under construction because they are updated (more or less) frequently.

Do use the first screen

Be sure to put important text on the first part of your page, the part that will show up first on a screen.

Do present the issues right away

Your visitor wants to know immediately what she/he can find on your site. Keep that in mind when designing your site.
Present the important issue(s) of your site on the first page.

Do use a descriptive title

The text for the tag TITLE should be descriptive.
The title shows up in the results of search engines. A descriptive title makes clear what people can expect on your site.
The title is also shown in the history list of browsers.

Do use small pages

The World Wide Web is not a book. People don’t read it sequentially. They want to select a small piece of info and decide what info they want to read next.
So you should provide small pages. Cut long pages in pieces and connect them through hyperlinks.

Do use implicit text for your links

Phrases like Click here or Check this link distract from the content and are to be avoided.
Try to write your text in such a way that a link is a natural part of the sentence. Instead of writing: Ezine Article Submission - Submit Your Best Articles For Massive Exposure, Ezine Publishers Get 25 Free Article Reprints Click here to visit it;
try to write something like:
Ezine Article Submission - Submit Your Best Articles For Massive Exposure, Ezine Publishers Get 25 Free Article Reprints

Do update your pages

Be sure to check your pages on a regular base and to update them if necessary.

Do show date of update

You update your pages on a regular basis. Don’t you?
Make clear to your visitors how recent or (out-)dated your information is. Provide the date of the last update. And don’t forget to change the date if you change a page…

Do ask for feedback

You can learn from your visitors.
Ask for their feedback and give them an e-mail address to reach you.

How not to be ripped off by your website designer.

Filed under: Living With The Web — admin @ 4:25 pm

As web designer my self, I have had the unfortunate luck of
speaking to too many of my clients who have been ripped off by a
web design somewhere along the line. Whether it be that the
designer never really finished the website, took the deposit and
was never heard from again, or finished the website with less
than promised quality.

No business, especially a small business, can afford to be taken
advantage of by a web designer.

So what can you do? How can you prevent this from happening?

•Get everything in writing! You should never turn over a dime
without a contract. Make sure to include a detailed list of
deliverables as well as completion date. •Never pay more than
50% of your project cost upfront! Never! Make them work for the
rest of their money, if they are expecting a pay day upon
completion of the website they will move to finish it much
quicker. •Beware of prices that are just too low. If your
project has been receiving bids in the $1,200 range and then out
of the blue you receive one for $300, it might be too good to be
true. •Ask for a reference, most reputable design firms will put
you in touch with a recent client without hesitation. •Make sure
the designer agrees to show you mock ups of your website before
the project is complete. This way if you don’t like the look or
need anything changed it can be taken care of before the website
is live. •As obvious as this one sounds, check the portfolio! If
you are looking to develop a full web based application check if
they have done this sort of thing before! If not, there is a
chance the designer might get in over his or her head. •Ask
about the business, find out as much as you can! How many
employees, where are they based out of, how long have then been
in business, etc. •If you can, get a referral from a friend,
family member, or colleague who has had a great experience.
•Lastly, Google the business! Search for the business name in
quotes on Google.com, you may just come across a forum post some
where from someone telling you to beware!

Overall, you just need to be cautious when selecting your web
designer. There are millions of design firms and freelancers who
are willing to take on your project, the problem is finding the
right one for you. Designing your website is a very fun and
exciting time for a business and if you follow the tips above
you won’t have any regrets!

Understanding Search and Design Leads to Better Search Engine Results

Filed under: Living With The Web — admin @ 6:18 pm

The problem, however, is that many Web designers still cannot grasp the purity of Google’s laser-like approach to search. It is the purity of this search that connects Web sites to one another.

Let’s look at a case study of a public relations agency.

Design Matters
In the case of Virginia-based Rourk Public Relations, www.rourkpr.com, the challenge was to communicate with potential clients using just the right balance of text content and Web graphics. Using Google as a search engine benchmark during the design phase, a good Web site designer understands that Google uses text content to index or list a Web site in the appropriate category. Another factor is a Web site’s locality. Have you listed your address, city, state, zip and phone with area code in “text form” throughout your Web site? This helps Google determine regional factors as they apply to your search engine ranking. Usually the best place to position this is in the footer or bottom of your Web site.

Rourk Public Relations features a nice balance of graphics and text with ample white space for readability. The design is striking, yet clean and easy to read. A Web site need not fill every inch of white space for the sake of filling up the browser space. If you’re still not convinced, look at Google’s home page.

Content is King
Search engines love content. In the Rourk Public Relations’ web site there is a ‘Team’ section with short bios and pictures. David Rourk, the agency’s president, shared with me that one of his clients found his Web site when searching for the advertising agency Barker Campbell Farley & Mansfield. This search result was due to text within one of his team member’s biographies. Unfortunately, this competitor’s Web site was not found by the user, most likely due to the fact that their Web site is not correctly optimized for search engines.

Write meaningful, informative copy about your business. Write well-formed paragraphs that are error free. Google fine tunes its search algorithm daily. They have teams of coder-programmers who work to make Google 2nd to none in terms of pure search. So don’t write copy for search engines, write copy for your visitors. Talk about your company, your business, what you do.

Copywriters Can Increase Your Search Rankings
Writing great copy is no easy task, so it is well worth the investment to hire a good copywriter that will make your site sing and help elevate it to the first or second page of major search engine rankings. Rourk Public Relations has written copy for several of my Web clients with outstanding results. You may be the brains of your business, but you may not be a wordsmith. Hire a good copywriter. Competition on the Web is tough. You need to put your best foot forward if you want to tap into the billions of dollars that well designed and written Web sites are generating.

You have no doubt seen ads on the Web or in your email titled Top 10 Ranking Now or Drive Tons of Traffic to Your Web Site. Don’t be fooled. There are no short-cuts to driving traffic to your Web site. It takes a keen understanding of search engines through years of study and the correct design and text to get to the top.
